Japanese mobile gaming company DeNA Co. expects its quarterly revenue to surge to at least 25 billion yen ($176 million) after the successful launch of its Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, more than doubling from 12.7 billion yen a year earlier.
The Tokyo-based company said the mobile card game, released globally in October, has already topped 60 million downloads across 150 countries and regions. While DeNA develops and operates the title in partnership with other companies, it recognizes revenue based on its share of user spending.
The strong performance of the Pokémon title marks a turnaround for DeNA, which had been seeing declining revenue from existing games and scaling back its China operations. The company withdrew its full-year forecast, citing difficulty in making reasonable projections due to the game’s unexpected success.
DeNA said its gaming division is now likely to post higher revenue and profit for the fiscal year ending March 2025 compared to the previous year, reversing earlier expectations of a decline.
