Bandai Namco Music Live has announced the launch of “GEKIBAN LIVE PROJECT,” a new initiative dedicated to showcasing theatrical music from anime films and series. This innovative project aims to immerse fans in the unique worlds of anime through a blend of live music and visual storytelling. The project kicks off with film concerts for “Hanasaku Iroha” in May and “Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere” in July, emphasizing the power of music in anime narratives.
The concept of Ekiban, which refers to the background music accompanying a story in movies or anime, is at the heart of this project. It’s designed to give fans a deeper appreciation of the anime universe and the integral role of soundtracks. Bandai Namco Music Live, known for their expertise in music and live performances within the Bandai Namco Group, will leverage their extensive experience in producing musical concerts. These events will combine orchestral and band performances with visual elements to enrich the storytelling experience.
“GEKIBAN LIVE PROJECT” plans to offer a diverse range of performances, tailored to the specific atmosphere of each anime. Audiences can expect a mix of full orchestral arrangements, string quartets, and bands, complemented by video clips and live performances of songs by artists. The aim is to present anime and music in a multifaceted manner, enhancing the appeal of both mediums.
The project’s inaugural events include the “Hanasaku Iroha” film concert at Yokosuka Arts Theater and the “Horizon on the Boundary” concert at Morino Hall 21. These performances will feature live orchestral music accompanying the movie screenings, creating a truly immersive and luxurious experience for fans.
In addition to “GEKIBAN LIVE PROJECT,” Bandai Namco Music Live is collaborating with the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra’s “Entertainment Period” to further celebrate anime music. This includes performances featuring “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion,” “Mobile Suit Z Gundam,” and more. These initiatives reflect a growing interest in anime-related music and the role of live events in highlighting the genre’s unique qualities, especially at a time when traditional music releases are in decline.
