Bandai Namco Film Works, the production powerhouse behind the Gundam series, is set to venture into virtual reality (VR) with their upcoming project, “Mobile Suit Gundam: Silver Phantom.”
Co-produced with Paris-based VR studio Atlas V, renowned for its expertise in immersive productions, the title hints at a Universal Century setting given its association with the iconic “Mobile Suit Gundam.” However, details about the storyline, characters, period, and staff remain shrouded in mystery, awaiting future announcements.
The Gundam franchise, originating from the 1979 TV anime “Mobile Suit Gundam,” has evolved into a cultural phenomenon with a diverse range of products and services. Bandai Namco Film Works has been actively expanding its global presence, particularly in Asia, North America, and Europe. Notably, the company is working on a live-action film in collaboration with Legendary Pictures and Netflix, signaling a broader venture into overseas video production.
“Mobile Suit Gundam: Silver Phantom” aligns with Bandai Namco Film Works’ international aspirations. Atlas V, co-producing the project, is renowned for its expertise in VR and AR, boasting acclaimed works such as “Gloomy Eyes” and “Battlescar.” The forthcoming VR experience promises an unparalleled interactive narrative, allowing fans to immerse themselves in the Gundam universe using Meta’s Quest VR headset.
The distribution of the VR work will be handled by Astrea, a specialized agency in France, emphasizing the ambitious and global nature of the project.
