ASE Technology Holding, the world’s leading semiconductor packaging and testing company, is ramping up its presence in Kaohsiung with a new advanced packaging facility. The company broke ground on its K28 factory, designed to bolster its capabilities in chip-on-wafer-on-substrate (CoWoS) processes and terminal testing.
The seven-story facility, spanning 10,000 square meters, represents ASE’s first structural anti-microvibration design. Set for completion in 2026, the K28 plant is expected to create nearly 900 jobs and complement the recently operational K27 factory at the Dashe base.
ASE’s expansion aligns with surging demand for advanced semiconductor processes driven by artificial intelligence applications. The company’s Kaohsiung plant was recognized as a “Global Lighthouse Factory” by the World Economic Forum in 2023, highlighting its adoption of Industry 4.0 and AI technologies to optimize production.
The new facility emphasizes sustainability, incorporating low-carbon materials, energy-efficient equipment, and solar panels. ASE aims for gold-level green building certification for the K28 factory, underscoring its commitment to environmentally friendly operations.
Kaohsiung officials view the project as a key component in developing the city’s “Semiconductor S Corridor,” reinforcing its position in the global tech supply chain
