IG Port, the anime powerhouse behind Production IG and WIT STUDIO, reported a 79.6% year-on-year jump in first-quarter sales to 4.48 billion yen ($30.1 million) for the fiscal year ending May 2025. Despite the revenue boost, the company faces challenges in profitability.
The video production segment saw sales climb 31.2% to 1.77 billion yen, driven by popular series like “Kaiju No. 8” and “SPY×FAMILY.” However, operating losses in this division widened to 394 million yen, as rising CG production and outsourcing costs outpaced revenue growth.
IG Port’s copyright business was the standout performer, with sales soaring 345.6% to 2.05 billion yen. This figure was inflated by a one-time licensing deal with Netflix for “Kimi ni Todoke 3RD SEASON.” Excluding this outlier, the “Haikyu!!” franchise led copyright income, accounting for 28.1% of the total.
While overall operating profit rose 34.9% to 444 million yen, net profit fell 31.4% to 231 million yen due to increased tax expenses. As IG Port navigates the evolving anime landscape, balancing production costs with lucrative streaming deals remains a key challenge.
