Anime Expo 2024, the premier anime event in the United States, will take place from July 4th to 7th at the Los Angeles Convention Center, expecting to draw around 400,000 attendees. This year, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) is making its largest ever effort to promote Japanese anime overseas. The Japan Pavilion, known as “Geek Street,” will be prominently located in the South Hall, featuring 16 Japanese companies. The pavilion will highlight popular anime, VTubers, and character goods, alongside stage demonstrations and promotional video screenings.

Anime Expo, organized by the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA), has been a key event since 1992, celebrating not only anime but also manga, games, JPOP, and broader Japanese pop culture. JETRO’s participation this year marks their most significant involvement, underscoring a strategic push to enhance the visibility of Japanese cultural exports.

In addition to the consumer-focused activities, JETRO will host a business-to-business event on July 5th called “JAPAN ANIME Social ~ Networking Mixer For Anime Industry at AX~,” aimed at fostering industry connections and discussions. This initiative coincides with the completion of JETRO’s research report on the North American anime market, which will be made publicly available on their official website.
