Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. is rewarding employees with annual bonuses equivalent to 12 months’ salary after posting stronger-than-expected profits for 2024.
The Taiwanese shipping company reported NT$79.82 billion ($2.53 billion) in pretax earnings and NT$64.18 billion in net income, according to a company statement. This translates to earnings per share of NT$18.38.
Yang Ming employees have already received 5.5 months of bonus payments before the Lunar New Year in January, with an additional 6.5 months to follow. Staff will also receive a mid-year bonus, with the company allocating 1% of pretax profit for employee compensation — approximately NT$487,600 ($15,450) per person.
The company’s ESG report indicates it employs about 1,634 full-time workers, including shore staff, maritime personnel, and work-study employees. For entry-level workers earning an average monthly salary of NT$71,700, the mid-year bonus represents nearly seven months of wages.
Yang Ming’s consolidated revenue reached NT$222.71 billion for 2024. The board has approved a cash dividend of NT$7.5 per share following the impressive operational and profit performance.
