Taiwanese computer makers Acer Inc. and Asustek Computer Inc. reported higher November sales, though Asus warned of potential weakness ahead in its core PC business during what should be the peak season.
Asus saw its November revenue climb 28.5% year-on-year to NT$55.5 billion ($1.8 billion), with brand sales reaching NT$51.4 billion. However, the company expects PC revenue to decline 15% this quarter compared to Q3, despite projecting over 20% year-on-year growth. Its components and server business is forecast to grow 5-10% quarter-on-quarter.
The company has been expanding its artificial intelligence capabilities, with servers featuring Nvidia Corp.’s H100 chips driving growth. It began shipping H200-equipped products in October and plans to ramp up its GB200 server deliveries in early 2024 after customer validation.
Meanwhile, Acer reported November revenue of NT$22.7 billion ($720 million), up 13.1% from last year. Its Chromebook sales surged 54.1%, helping offset potential weakness in traditional PCs. The company’s diversification strategy appears to be paying off, with non-PC businesses accounting for 26.8% of November revenue.
The company’s AI server subsidiary, Altos Computing, grew sales 64.4% in the first 11 months of 2023.
