Taiwan Mobile announced on February 25 that it will deepen cooperation with South Korea’s SK Telecom on AI-RAN (Artificial Intelligence Radio Access Network) technology at the Mobile World Congress. The collaboration will focus on implementing artificial intelligence to enhance base station efficiency, reduce power consumption, and lower operational costs while integrating AI and network automation technologies into existing network infrastructures.
The two companies have maintained a close partnership since 2020, when Taiwan Mobile launched its 5G services. Their collaboration spans multiple areas including 5G NSA and SA technology evolution, spectrum refarming, network planning, and energy-saving methodologies. Regular visits between the companies have helped shorten technology implementation timelines and accelerated the deployment of innovative technologies.
SK Telecom holds a leading global position in B5G (Beyond 5G) and 6G technology development. In recent years, the Korean telecom giant has actively promoted AI applications, enhancing network stability and exploring new applications through AI-RAN and Edge AI technologies.
Taiwan Mobile indicated that this collaboration’s focus on AI-RAN represents a key technology for next-generation intelligent networks, enabling enhanced wireless network performance through AI-driven adaptive network configuration and smart energy conservation.
