SK Chemicals Co., a South Korean chemical company, is making a strategic move into the US medical packaging market with its innovative circular recycling materials. This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to sustainability by utilizing its unique chemical recycling technology. This process transforms discarded plastics into raw materials through depolymerization, facilitating the production of recycled plastics.
At the Medical Design & Manufacturing West (MD&M) 2024 exhibition in Anaheim, California, SK Chemicals will present its advanced materials, including copolyester used in medical packaging, such as mask shields and storage containers for medical equipment. The highlight of their showcase will be SKYPET CR and ECOTRIA CR, materials that embody the company’s circular recycling technology. This participation not only signifies SK Chemicals’ entry into the US market but also aligns with the growing demand for sustainable materials in the medical device industry.
Strengthening its market position, SK Chemicals is collaborating with Pacur LLC, a leading US-based medical packaging company, to develop products utilizing recycled materials from the SKYPET and ECOTRIA series. This partnership is pivotal in promoting sustainability within the medical packaging sector. Kim Eung Soo, Head of Green Materials Business at SK Chemicals, emphasized the significance of this collaboration in enhancing the market’s sustainability practices and expressed the company’s dedication to increasing the availability of recycled materials in the industry.
