Japanese software testing company SHIFT plans to acquire DMM.com’s programming school and recruitment business through a company split for ¥390 million ($2.7 million), expanding its footprint in the tech education sector.
The deal, expected to close on July 1, 2025, involves DMM’s subsidiary InfraTOP transferring its education and human resources operations to a newly established company, which SHIFT will then purchase.
InfraTOP’s programming school boasts impressive metrics, with a 97% graduation rate and a 98.8% job placement success rate. The school’s one-year job retention rate stands above 95%, highlighting its effectiveness in career transitions.
The acquisition aligns with SHIFT’s strategy to broaden its educational offerings beyond its current corporate training program “Hinshitsu University.” The company expects to leverage InfraTOP’s expertise to attract a wider range of engineering talent and potential recruits for its group companies.
While SHIFT says the deal won’t significantly impact its financial results, it follows a broader trend of Japanese tech companies investing in education to address the country’s persistent IT skills shortage.
