Samyang Foods’ Buldak Stir-Fried Ramen series continues to dominate the global market, turning a simple noodle dish into a worldwide culinary trend. The series, recognized under the “Buldak Legend” for its fiery flavor and cultural appeal, has been making headlines internationally, with recent reports highlighting shortages and growing demand.

On April 22, The New York Times underscored a shortage crisis of the hot and spicy ramen, a sentiment echoed by other notable publications including The Wall Street Journal and Nikkei Asia. This global attention is part of a deliberate strategy by Kim Jung-soo, Vice Chairman of Samyang Round Square, who envisions the ramen series not just as food, but as a cultural and fashion statement.

Since its more aggressive global push in 2017, the Buldak series has seen exponential growth in sales and popularity. By 2023, Samyang Foods reported surpassing cumulative sales of 5 billion units, with revenues exceeding 1.2 trillion won. This milestone follows a consistent upward trajectory from one billion units in 2017 to four billion by 2022.

The product’s international success is further highlighted by its export figures, which soared from $100 million in 2017 to $400 million in 2022. Presently, Buldak Ramen is exported to over 90 countries, each market contributing to its status as a global phenomenon. The brand’s strategic positioning and innovative marketing have not only expanded its consumer base but have also cemented its place as a staple in diverse culinary cultures around the world.
