Samsung SDS captured 23.9% of South Korea’s managed cloud services market, securing the top position according to IDC’s latest report. The company strengthened its grip on the domestic cloud sector through its proprietary cloud platform and managed services portfolio.
The IT unit of Samsung Group also claimed second place in public cloud services with an 11% market share, reinforcing its position against international competitors. This dual achievement reflects the company’s aggressive push into cloud infrastructure and software-as-a-service solutions.
The market assessment by IDC highlighted Samsung SDS’s expertise in consulting and cloud migration services. By the third quarter, the company reported cloud-related revenue of 1.72 trillion won ($1.3 billion), marking a 30% increase from the previous year.
A Samsung SDS executive attributed the growth to the company’s comprehensive cloud strategy, which includes managed services and its Samsung Cloud Platform. However, the company faces increasing competition from global providers like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, who continue to expand their presence in the Korean market.
IDC’s report suggests that Samsung SDS’s local market knowledge and existing relationships with Korean enterprises have helped maintain its competitive edge in the managed services segment.
