NTT Data has secured a sales agency agreement for OpenAI’s ChatGPT Enterprise, becoming only the second company globally after PwC to gain such rights, as the Japanese IT services provider prepares to roll out generative AI tools for businesses worldwide with enhanced data security features.

The Tokyo-based company will begin sales activities in May, offering services including AI implementation consulting, system development support and managed operations. The partnership focuses on developing AI agents capable of autonomously performing business functions from call center operations to sales strategy optimization.

NTT Data executives cited the enterprise version’s security features as a key selling point, noting it doesn’t learn from client input and prevents data retention that could lead to information leakage. The company aims to generate ¥100 billion ($700 million) from OpenAI-related ventures by fiscal 2028 as it leverages its network across approximately 50 countries.

For financially challenged OpenAI, which reportedly posted $3.7 billion in revenue but losses nearing $5 billion in 2024, the enterprise market represents a critical growth opportunity. Industry projections suggest the global AI agent market will expand nearly ninefold to $47.1 billion by 2030, with competitors like SoftBank already forming similar partnerships.
