Novatek Microelectronics Corp. is expanding its footprint in Taiwan’s semiconductor ecosystem with a NT$2 billion ($640 million) research facility in Tainan Science Park, betting on growing demand for display driver chips.
The seven-story complex, slated for completion in the third quarter of 2027, will house 1,000 research positions and is expected to generate annual production value of NT$30 billion ($960 million). The L-shaped building’s design draws inspiration from the company’s core product line of smart display ICs.
The facility aims for multiple green certifications, including LEED and WELL. Its energy-efficient features, combined with a 360-kilowatt rooftop solar installation, could reduce power consumption by 25% and cut carbon emissions by 1,000 tons annually.
Novatek currently employs over 400 people at its Yongkang site. The new center will include amenities such as a two-story communal space, employee cafeteria, and fitness center, reflecting the growing competition among Taiwan’s tech firms for talent retention.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che cited the city’s established semiconductor cluster, stable utilities, and talent pool as key factors in attracting technology investments.
