LG Innotek announced on August 28 that it has filed approximately 3,500 patents in automotive electronics over the past five years, an average of two patents per day. This aggressive patent strategy underscores the company’s focus on expanding its presence in the automotive electronics sector, which has been identified as a key growth area.
Automotive electronics patents now account for 40% of LG Innotek’s total patent portfolio, with a significant emphasis on future vehicle technologies. The company is rapidly accumulating patents in areas such as light detection and ranging (LIDAR) devices, vehicle cameras, lighting products, and communication modules.
Additionally, LG Innotek has made strides in securing international standard patents, particularly in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. The company recently registered five patents related to electric vehicle communication controllers (EVCCs), which facilitate communication between EVs and charging stations. This adds to the three international standard EVCC patents it secured earlier in 2023. LG Innotek is now one of only eight companies globally, including giants like GE and Siemens, to hold such patents.
Beyond patents, LG Innotek plays a pivotal role in establishing global standards for future vehicle technologies, with its experts actively contributing to ISO’s standardization efforts, particularly in LIDAR technology.
