South Korean companies LG Innotek and SK On continue to make significant strides in technological innovation, as evidenced by their recent recognition at the prestigious Edison Awards in the United States. For the second year in a row, both firms have been acknowledged for their groundbreaking contributions to technology and sustainability.
LG Innotek secured a silver award in the Commercial Technology category for its advanced ultra-thin optical telephoto zoom camera module, designed for mobile devices. This compact module enhances smartphone photography by integrating the high-quality telephoto capabilities of professional DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. The recognition follows last year’s bronze award for the company’s ultra-thin magnetic component, Nexlim.
On the other hand, SK On received a bronze award in the Smart Transportation category for its innovative cobalt-free battery, marking a significant advancement in eco-friendly energy solutions. This award builds on the previous year’s acknowledgment for the company’s NCM9 battery. The development of a cobalt-free battery not only addresses ethical concerns around cobalt mining, which is often linked to labor exploitation and environmental issues but also reduces costs by substituting cobalt with nickel and manganese.
Both companies exemplify leadership in adapting and evolving technologies that promise to enhance consumer products and foster a sustainable future.
