LG Display, a leading panel manufacturer from South Korea, has secured OLED panel orders from Apple for the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro Max, as reported by Korean media outlet “The Elec.” This marks a significant achievement for LG Display, placing it ahead of its rival Samsung in supplying panels for Apple’s flagship model for the first time.
In May, both LG Display and Samsung Display obtained orders for OLED panels for the iPhone 16 Pro. Following this, LG Display also acquired orders for the iPhone 16 Pro Max panels, highlighting a notable shift in the competitive landscape. Previously, Samsung Display dominated the supply chain, particularly for the iPhone 15 Pro, significantly boosting its profitability.
This year, LG Display has made a strong comeback by securing orders for both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models. This turnaround marks a significant boost for LG Display, which struggled last year to secure initial orders for the iPhone 15 Pro.
However, Samsung Display remains a key player, maintaining orders for OLED panels for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models. LG Display’s orders are focused on the higher-end iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models, showcasing a strategic distribution of supply between the two South Korean giants.
Additionally, according to previous revelations from South Korean source yeux1122, LG Display has also secured a larger share than Samsung Display in supplying OLED screens for Apple’s new iPad Pro, further solidifying its position in the high-end display market.
