KCC Glass Corp., a leading South Korean construction materials manufacturer, announced an additional 700 billion won ($524.8 million) investment in its glass plant in Batang, Central Java, Indonesia. This move aims to develop the facility into a production cluster to support KCC’s expansion into key markets across Southeast Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East.
Since 2021, KCC has invested 300 billion won in constructing the plant, which will produce 440,000 tons of float glass annually, raising the company’s total production capacity to 1.74 million tons. Commercial operations are set to begin by the end of this month following the heating of the plant’s melting furnace.
KCC’s Batang plant is positioned to make Indonesia a significant player in the global glass industry. The country, with its young population and strong economic growth exceeding 5% for the past two years, offers strategic advantages due to its location between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. KCC also anticipates rising demand for construction materials as Indonesia relocates its capital to Nusantara in East Kalimantan, further boosting opportunities in the region.
