Innolux Corporation has equipped Taipei Dome with its LumiCanvas LED display technology, featuring a massive 19-meter by 1-meter screen designed specifically for sports venues. The installation addresses critical requirements for professional baseball games, including anti-glare, low reflection, high contrast, and flicker prevention capabilities.
The display made its debut during February’s World Baseball Classic qualification games, showcasing the technology to thousands of spectators. International sporting events impose strict specifications on LED lighting and video walls to reduce visual discomfort for pitchers and players.
Yang Chu-hsiang, Innolux’s general manager, noted that the company has been strategically developing COB (chip-on-board) mini-pitch LED and MicroLED technologies. The firm has previously deployed seamless large-scale video walls across various venues including Taipei MRT underground malls, movie theaters, hospitals, and department stores.
According to market research firm Futuresource Consulting, the outdoor LED display market reached $7.86 billion in 2023 and is projected to grow to $21.7 billion by 2033, representing a compound annual growth rate of 9.8%. The jumbotron segment used in baseball stadiums and large exhibition venues generated approximately $1.5-2.5 billion in 2023.
The 40,000-seat Taipei Dome, which meets World Baseball Softball Confederation hardware standards, has enhanced its smart capabilities with this new display technology.
