Hanwha Aerospace has formed a strategic partnership with space launch startup Perigee Aerospace to develop future space transportation technology, the company announced Wednesday.
The memorandum of understanding, signed at Perigee’s Rocket Development Complex in North Chungcheong Province, aims to combine Hanwha’s industrial scale with Perigee’s specialized capabilities in micro-launch vehicles and propulsion systems.
Hanwha has been strengthening its position in South Korea’s space industry since 2022, serving as a system integrator for the national Nuri launch vehicle alongside the Korea Aerospace Research Institute. The company was also tapped last year to lead integration for South Korea’s next-generation lunar mission vehicle, scheduled to deliver a lander to the moon by 2032.
Perigee brings technical expertise with its self-developed Blue Whale micro-launcher, propulsion systems, and carbon composite fuselage manufacturing.
The collaboration comes as South Korea intensifies efforts to establish itself as a space power amid increasing regional competition. The fourth launch of the Nuri rocket is expected in the second half of 2025.
Hanwha officials said the partnership would focus on developing economically viable space transportation systems, including launch vehicles and environmentally friendly propulsion technology.
