Doosan Robotics plans to roll out collaborative robots at London Bagel Museum stores in South Korea, targeting hazardous kitchen operations like dough mixing and bagel boiling. The robotic solutions will focus on tasks where workers face risks of burns, respiratory issues and musculoskeletal injuries.
The Korean robotics company signed an agreement with LBM, which operates six London-themed bagel shops across the country. The partnership will initially analyze production bottlenecks at the bakery chain’s central kitchen before implementing automated systems for heavy lifting and repetitive motions.
Key areas for automation include the water bath process where bagels are boiled, oven loading that requires awkward reaching movements, and logistics operations involving loads over 20 kilograms. The companies aim to reduce workplace accidents while improving employee satisfaction.
London Bagel Museum, which opened its first location in Seoul’s Anguk district in 2021, has built its brand around a vintage British aesthetic. Doosan Robotics says its collaborative robots meet industry safety standards and could potentially be deployed at other food service operations facing similar workplace hazards.
The initiative reflects growing automation in South Korea’s food service sector as companies grapple with workplace safety and labor challenges. Success at London Bagel Museum could create a template for broader adoption across the industry.
