Daewoo Engineering & Construction (Daewoo E&C) hosted the “Czech-Korean Nuclear Power Plant Construction Forum” in Prague on May 27, underscoring its commitment to securing a contract for a nuclear power plant project in the Czech Republic. The forum saw the participation of around 150 individuals, including senior Czech government officials, nuclear industry representatives, and media members.
President Baek Jeong-wan of Daewoo E&C spearheaded the event, establishing cooperative relationships with local companies to bolster efforts in securing the nuclear power plant contract. The event featured direct negotiations and the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with local firms, which attracted significant attention from the Czech media.
This forum followed Doosan Enerbility’s Partnership Day on May 13, showcasing the strengths of South Korean nuclear technology. Daewoo E&C continued its proactive approach by meeting with local authorities in Dukovany, the planned site for the nuclear power plant, and discussing employment and economic cooperation opportunities with local residents.
In a parallel effort, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) submitted a final bid to CEZ, the Czech government-owned power company, on April 29. If successful, KHNP will serve as the main contractor, with Daewoo E&C responsible for infrastructure construction, including building facilities and installing equipment for primary works. Daewoo E&C joined the bidding process in 2018, partnering with KHNP to promote South Korean nuclear technology in Prague.
In April, Daewoo E&C also achieved a significant milestone by obtaining the “Nuclear Supply Chain Quality Management System (ISO19443)” certification from TÜV SÜD, a leading global certification body in Europe. This certification, the first of its kind in the industry, underscores Daewoo E&C’s commitment to maintaining high standards in nuclear supply chain quality management.
With these strategic initiatives and certifications, Daewoo E&C aims to solidify its position as a leading contender for the Czech nuclear power plant project, demonstrating the reliability and excellence of South Korean nuclear technology.
