Coupang is ramping up its investment in logistics infrastructure, focusing on regions with declining populations across South Korea. The e-commerce giant plans to directly hire up to 10,000 new employees as part of its initiative to expand its logistics network. This move is aligned with Coupang’s broader strategy to invest over 3 trillion won (approximately $2.24 billion) in nationwide logistics infrastructure by 2026.
The company’s investment will establish new fulfillment centers and other logistics facilities in nine regions by early next year. Coupang’s goal is to extend its popular “Rocket Delivery” service to all 50 million people in South Korea, including those in remote and underserved areas. As part of this expansion, Coupang expects to increase its workforce in non-Seoul regions to over 65,000, further solidifying its presence outside the capital.
Coupang’s logistics and delivery subsidiaries are also projected to bolster their total direct employment to around 80,000, with the majority of employees working in regions outside Seoul. The expansion is expected to significantly enhance delivery services in provincial cities and improve access to Coupang’s offerings in previously underserved areas, ultimately contributing to the company’s nationwide growth.
