Chunghwa Telecom will establish a new office in Texas, expanding its US presence as Taiwanese tech firms rush to build supercomputer facilities in the state, the company announced at its investor conference yesterday.
The move follows Chunghwa’s Arizona office expansion earlier this year and aligns with NVIDIA’s plans to construct a supercomputer factory in Texas, where Taiwanese manufacturers Foxconn and Wistron are separately developing facilities in Houston and Dallas.
Chairman Chih-Cheng Chien indicated the expansion reflects the company’s two-decade-old philosophy of following Taiwanese businesses globally. “Tariff concerns are having minimal impact on our operations and instead create growth opportunities for our international business,” Chien noted.
Texas has emerged as a southern US economic hub with rapid development in semiconductors and electric vehicles, attracting substantial Taiwanese investment and creating what the company describes as a “new Taiwanese business cluster.”
The telecom provider reported first-quarter earnings of NT$1.26 ($0.04) per share, with revenue and profit exceeding forecasts. CEO Jung-Tzu Lin stated the company maintains its market-leading position in mobile services.
Chunghwa Telecom currently operates from several US locations including San Jose and New York, with additional overseas offices in Japan’s Kumamoto prefecture, Southeast Asia, and Europe.
