Asahi Broadcasting Group Holdings has reported a substantial increase in sales from its anime business, revealing a rise of 6 billion yen for the fiscal year ending March 2024. This marks a significant growth from the 700 million yen recorded when the company launched its anime business in the fiscal year ending March 2017, reflecting an impressive 8.6-fold increase over seven years.

In a bid to further accelerate this burgeoning sector, Asahi Broadcasting reorganized its anime-related entities under the ABC Animation umbrella in October 2023. This reorganization aims to optimize the development and monetization of anime intellectual property (IP) across multiple platforms and media windows. The multi-window approach strategically maximizes profits by staggering the release of content across various media formats, including domestic and international sales, merchandise, and stage performances. The company has also announced plans to venture into the gaming sector within this fiscal year.

Looking ahead, Asahi Broadcasting is exploring various growth strategies, primarily focusing on mergers and acquisitions (M&A). The goal is to develop anime IPs with higher added value, leveraging the newly acquired CGCG Studios from October last year to enhance their capabilities. This move is part of a broader effort to solidify Asahi Broadcasting’s position in the competitive anime market, driving sustained growth and expansion in the years to come.
