AEON Fantasy Co. posted record-high operating revenue and profit for the second quarter, driven by strong performance in its domestic and ASEAN markets. However, the Japanese amusement park operator’s net profit plummeted due to store-related losses and challenges in China.
The company reported sales of 43.92 billion yen ($292 million), up 7.5% year-on-year, and operating profit of 2.87 billion yen ($19 million), surging 41.8%. Despite these gains, net profit fell 68.3% to 373 million yen ($2.5 million).
AEON Fantasy’s domestic business thrived, with sales increasing 9.4% to 34.78 billion yen ($231 million). The company attributed this success to its new “yokocho” store format and strong performance in the prize division, particularly in kids’ prizes.
In contrast, the Chinese market remained a weak spot. Sales in China dropped 24.8% to 2.87 billion yen ($19 million), resulting in an operating loss of 1.22 billion yen ($8.1 million). The company closed 31 unprofitable stores in China during the period.
AEON Fantasy expanded its total store count to 1,207, including 737 in Japan and 470 overseas. The company maintains its full-year forecast, projecting a 6% increase in sales and a 59% jump in operating profit.
