Nintendo is pushing deeper into Hollywood with new film projects, including an animated Mario movie for 2026 and its first live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda series.
The entertainment giant is diversifying beyond its traditional gaming business, with plans to open new theme park attractions in Orlando and Singapore. The company’s SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, which debuted in Osaka in 2021, will add a Donkey Kong-themed area in 2024.
Nintendo’s retail footprint is also expanding, with a new official store slated to open in San Francisco in 2025, joining locations in New York, Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. The company has been testing markets through pop-up stores in European cities like Paris and Zurich, as well as Asian locations including Seoul and Hong Kong.
The Kyoto-based firm plans to leverage its Nintendo Account system, which has accumulated over 366 million users, to maintain customer relationships as it prepares to transition to its next gaming platform. The company confirmed it will announce a successor to the Switch console this fiscal year, promising compatibility with current Switch games and the Nintendo Switch Online service.
Nintendo’s gaming division is growing its development capabilities, with research and development staff increasing by 50% since 2017. The company is constructing a new development center to boost its hardware and software creation capacity.
