MediaTek is preparing to launch its latest flagship 5G AI chipset, the Dimensity 9400+, at its annual developer conference in Shenzhen on April 11, according to Chinese media reports.
The Taiwanese semiconductor company has already lined up smartphone manufacturers for the new processor, with Oppo Find X8S and vivo X200S devices expected to feature the chip when they launch later in April.
AI capabilities have become central to MediaTek’s strategy. Last year’s conference showcased the Dimensity 9300+ chipset with its all-big-core architecture and on-device AI speculative decoding, which enabled the Llama 2 7B model to process 22 tokens per second.
MediaTek President Joe Chen noted the company has made significant inroads in China’s competitive smartphone market. Its share in the flagship smartphone chipset segment rose from over 30% in 2023 to approximately 40% in 2024, with further growth projected for 2025.
The company’s latest processor, the Dimensity 9500, built on TSMC’s 3-nanometer manufacturing process, is reportedly seeing stronger adoption among smartphone manufacturers than its predecessor. This momentum comes as MediaTek continues to challenge Qualcomm’s dominance in the premium smartphone chip market.
