LG Energy Solution has secured a significant battery supply deal with Ford Motor Co., boosting its position in the electric commercial vehicle market. The South Korean battery maker announced Tuesday it will provide 109GWh of cells and modules for Ford’s electric trucks, all manufactured at its Wrocław facility in Poland.

The contract is divided into two segments: 75GWh from 2027 to 2032 and 34GWh from 2026 to 2030. This agreement replaces a previously planned joint venture in Turkey, which was abandoned due to market conditions.

LG Energy’s President Kim Dong-myung hailed the contract as a testament to the company’s technological prowess in the electric commercial vehicle sector. The deal also involves shifting production of batteries for Ford’s Mustang Mach-E from Poland to LG’s Michigan plant by 2025, leveraging U.S. tax incentives.

The Wrocław plant, one of Europe’s largest EV battery production facilities, will play a crucial role in fulfilling this contract. This agreement strengthens LG Energy’s foothold in the European market, where demand for electric commercial vehicles is on the rise.

While the deal marks a win for LG Energy, it also highlights the intensifying competition in the global EV battery market as suppliers vie for long-term contracts with major automakers.
