KADOKAWA Corp. is taking its popular anime magazine “Monthly Newtype” global, debuting an English version at New York Comic Con 2024 in partnership with Crunchyroll LLC.
The 16-page full-color magazine, tailored for the U.S. market, features in-depth coverage and staff interviews from its Japanese counterpart. The cover showcases a character from “Overlord: Holy Kingdom Arc” holding an apple, a nod to New York’s “Big Apple” moniker.
This marks KADOKAWA’s first U.S. edition since the early 2000s, reflecting the growing international appetite for Japanese anime. The company aims to bridge the gap between overseas fans and anime production through direct interviews and insights.
Beyond print, KADOKAWA is exploring digital avenues to reach global audiences. In collaboration with Nippon Broadcasting System, the company has launched a podcast delivering anime news in multiple languages using AI translation technology.
The initiative comes as Japanese anime continues to gain traction worldwide, with New York Comic Con serving as a key promotional platform for the industry.
