Wiwynn Corp. secured a significant AI server order from Malaysia’s YTL Group after Supermicro Computer Inc. suspended its factory expansion plans amid financial difficulties.
The Taiwan-based server manufacturer will supply high-end NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 systems to YTL’s data center project in Johor, Malaysia. The order was originally split between the two companies before Supermicro’s recent troubles forced it to halt plans to double its Malaysian production capacity.
The deal marks the first major order shift following Supermicro’s financial turbulence. Wiwynn’s strategic advantage comes from its expanding Malaysian facility, which neighbors YTL’s operations. The company started mass production at its Johor server assembly plant last October and plans to complete a motherboard production line in the second half of 2024.
To fund its expansion and technology development, Wiwynn’s board approved a NT$46.7 billion ($1.5 billion) financing package in June through overseas depositary receipts and corporate bonds – its first such capital raise since going public in 2019.
YTL aims to build an AI supercomputer exceeding 300 ExaFLOPS at its 1,640-acre data center park. The region has become increasingly attractive for data center investments, with Microsoft and AirTrunk among companies establishing operations there, drawn by affordable land and utilities.
