Taihan Cable & Solution Co. has made a significant stride in the global energy sector by clinching a $38 million contract to develop an ultra-high voltage (UHV) power network for Balfour Beatty, a major player in global infrastructure based in the UK. This project is set to transform the Northern UK’s power landscape, transitioning from aging overhead lines to a modern, reliable 132-kV UHV system with enhanced underground cables, aiming to bolster the region’s power supply reliability and transmission capacity.
This deal is a continuation of Taihan Cable’s growing influence in the UK’s energy infrastructure, building on a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with Balfour Beatty in November of the previous year. This MOU established a framework for technical collaboration, product development, and joint venture in bidding for upcoming transmission and distribution network initiatives, potentially worth over 220 million pounds ($280 million) by 2030.
Taihan Cable’s prior engagement in the UK includes a successful $27 million contract for a 400-kV UHV power network, underscoring its rising prominence in the sector. Partnering with Balfour Beatty, which boasts an impressive annual revenue exceeding $11 billion, Taihan Cable is poised to make impactful contributions to the UK’s infrastructure, aligning with broader efforts to upgrade and future-proof the nation’s energy networks.
