Qisda Group has marked a significant milestone in its satellite endeavors with the successful launch of its first 3U satellite, “Nighthawk,” on August 17, Taiwan time. This achievement positions Qisda as the second Taiwanese technology group, after Hon Hai Group, to successfully launch a satellite, further cementing Taiwan’s presence in the low-orbit satellite sector.
The “Nighthawk” satellite, developed by Qisda subsidiary Ray Ocean, was launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. This advancement propels Qisda’s low-orbit satellite strategy from earthbound initiatives to space, enhancing its capabilities in satellite IoT. The group’s network subsidiaries, including Mingtai and Zhongqi, are expected to play pivotal roles in capitalizing on emerging opportunities in the low-orbit satellite market.
Qisda has been actively expanding its satellite footprint, with Mingtai focusing on developing ground receiving stations and Zhongqi on user-end equipment. Last year, Qisda invested 320 million yuan in Ray Ocean to bolster its satellite technology and industry layout. The successful launch of “Nighthawk” underscores the group’s growing influence in space technology, particularly in satellite communication and IoT applications.
Leiyang, a key player in Qisda’s satellite efforts, partnered with National Central University to establish a satellite IoT testing site in Taiwan. With the successful deployment of “Nighthawk,” Qisda is well-positioned to advance its low-orbit satellite ambitions and contribute to Taiwan’s burgeoning space industry.
