Power Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (6770) has signed a definitive agreement with India’s Tata Electronics to assist in building India’s first 12-inch wafer fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat. The $11 billion project will have a monthly production capacity of 50,000 wafers, positioning India as a key player in semiconductor manufacturing.
The partnership includes technology transfer and workforce training, with Power Semiconductor providing mature process technology and helping Tata Electronics build the facility. The project is expected to create over 20,000 high-tech jobs locally.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who met with Power Semiconductor executives on September 26, pledged full government support for the project and emphasized his commitment to developing the country’s semiconductor industry. Modi also expressed appreciation for Taiwan’s role in strengthening India’s chip design and manufacturing capabilities, signaling broader collaboration between the two nations in the semiconductor sector.
