Japan Animation Association Released 2023 Anime Industry Report

The Japan Animation Association, a pivotal body in the anime sector, released the ‘Anime Industry Report 2023’ on December 14, 2023. This report, a comprehensive compilation of industry statistics and surveys from 2022, marks a significant milestone in the anime industry’s remarkable recovery and growth post the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the report, the domestic and international market for Japanese anime reached an unprecedented 2,927.7 billion yen in 2022, indicating a robust growth of 6.8% compared to the previous year. This figure is a new record high for the industry, nearly doubling from 1,476.9 billion yen a decade ago in 2013.

Spanning 120 pages of A4 size and including four folded charts along with numerous others, the report provides an in-depth analysis of the entire anime market. It delves into various segments including TV, theater, video packages, distribution, merchandising, promotion, music, and live events, while also examining overseas trends. Significantly, the report integrates real-world insights from industry operators, offering a valuable perspective on the current state of the anime business.

The report, priced at 22,000 yen (including tax), is available for download on the SPI Information website and in booklet form at AKIBA INFO.

In conjunction with the report’s release, a seminar will be held in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, on December 25, 2023, to discuss the latest trends and findings. The seminar, free for those who have purchased the report, will feature insights from the report’s authors, covering the industry’s progress from 2022 to 2023. The report will also be available for purchase at a special price of 20,000 yen at the seminar.
