Hyundai Engineering has acquired the business rights to OCI’s 260MW Hillsboro Solar Power Plant in Texas, marking a significant step in the company’s expansion into renewable energy. The official ceremony took place on July 31 at OCI Energy’s headquarters. The Hillsboro facility boasts a total power generation capacity of 492 GWh, enough to supply electricity to approximately 46,000 U.S. homes annually.
Hyundai Engineering is engaging with local engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firms to kickstart the project, with commercial operations targeted for the first half of 2027. The company is also assessing collaboration opportunities with major equipment and solar module suppliers to ensure a seamless rollout.
This acquisition reinforces Hyundai Engineering’s position as a next-generation energy specialist, leveraging its engineering, procurement, construction, and operation and maintenance (O&M) capabilities. The company has been steadily expanding its renewable energy portfolio. In December 2021, Hyundai completed the Saemangeum Onshore Photovoltaic Area 1 Power Generation Project in collaboration with KEPCO. More recently, in April 2024, Hyundai Engineering signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corporation (KIND) to jointly pursue renewable energy projects in Europe and South America.
The Hillsboro acquisition underscores Hyundai’s commitment to leading in the global transition towards sustainable energy.
