HD Hyundai, the shipbuilding arm of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, has entered into a lucrative contract to construct three Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLAC) for an unnamed Oceanian shipping firm. The deal, valued at 490 billion won, signifies a notable advancement in the company’s portfolio, emphasizing its robust presence in the global shipbuilding industry.
Scheduled for completion at the Ulsan HD Hyundai Heavy Industries yard, these state-of-the-art vessels are expected to be delivered to the client by the end of December 2027. This contract is a part of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering’s impressive accumulation of orders for the year, now totaling 72 vessels (including one marine facility), with an overall valuation reaching US$8.75 billion. This achievement marks 64.8% of the company’s ambitious US$13.5 billion annual goal.
The diverse array of orders secured by the company this year includes a variety of specialized vessels: six Liquefied Natural Gas carriers, 26 Petrochemical Product Carriers, 24 combined Liquefied Petroleum Gas and Ammonia Carriers, alongside one Ethane Carrier, two Liquefied Carbon Dioxide Carriers, six Very Large Crude Carriers, three additional tankers, and two Pure Car and Truck Carriers. This impressive lineup underscores HD Hyundai’s expansive capabilities and its strategic focus on catering to the evolving demands of the maritime industry, particularly in the transport of clean energy and specialized chemicals.
