Hanwha Ocean Co., a leading South Korean defense and shipbuilding company, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Poland’s WB Group to collaborate on the Orka submarine project, part of Poland’s naval modernization efforts. The partnership, announced during the MSPO 2024 defense exhibition in Kielce, Poland, focuses on securing the contract and offering maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services.
In addition to the submarine project, both companies plan to implement a localization strategy to increase their competitive edge, tailoring services to Poland’s specific needs. Hanwha Ocean and WB Group also intend to explore broader cooperation in the naval ship sector to deepen their long-term partnership.
As the competition for military contracts intensifies, Hanwha Ocean’s collaboration with WB Group could boost its position in securing a key role in Poland’s defense upgrade initiatives.
