The Taiwanese silicon wafer manufacturer GlobalWafers Co. reported NT$54.9 billion ($1.8 billion) in December revenue, showing signs of market improvement with a 7.3% month-on-month increase despite a 14.7% drop from the previous year.
The company’s performance signals a gradual recovery in the semiconductor supply chain, with fourth-quarter revenue reaching NT$163.4 billion ($5.4 billion), up 3% from the previous quarter. Full-year revenue for 2024 totaled NT$626.3 billion ($20.7 billion), marking the third-highest annual result in the company’s history despite an 11.4% year-over-year decline.
GlobalWafers secured significant U.S. government support, including up to $406 million in CHIPS Act funding and a 25% advanced manufacturing tax credit. The company’s new Texas facility achieved a milestone by producing its first 12-inch silicon ingot and polished wafer, just two years after breaking ground.
In Denmark, the company’s subsidiary Topsil launched a solar power plant that will generate more than 100% of its facility’s electricity needs, becoming the group’s first site to fulfill its RE100 renewable energy commitment. Excess power will feed back into the Danish energy grid.
The company expects stronger performance in the second half of 2025 as customer inventory adjustments progress and market recovery gains momentum.
