Formosa Plastics New Intelligence announced the completion of the first phase of its battery cell and module factory in Changbin, Taiwan. The facility, set to begin mass production in November, will produce 2.1 GWh of lithium iron phosphate battery cells and 1.1 GWh of battery modules annually, with full production and sales expected next year. This marks a significant step in the company’s push to become a key player in Taiwan’s new energy industry.

At the 2024 Taiwan International Smart Energy Week, Formosa Plastics showcased its advanced battery cell production technology, along with energy storage products for industrial, commercial, and residential use. The company is also working on next-generation all-solid-state battery technology, with trial production set to begin in phases starting from October.

Formosa Plastics is already receiving interest from domestic and international manufacturers, particularly for energy storage systems and electric vehicle applications. The company is also exploring opportunities to partner with U.S. AI data centers, though U.S. regulations may require local production of battery modules.

Looking ahead, the company plans to expand its Changbin facility to 5 GWh capacity and explore battery recycling solutions, positioning itself at the forefront of Taiwan’s growing battery industry. Formosa Plastics expects to generate NT$10 billion in revenue from these efforts by next year.
