Chunghwa Telecom Co. is modernizing its 5G network across central and southern Taiwan through a one-year contract with Nokia Oyj, as Taiwan’s largest carrier prepares for next-generation wireless services.
The project centers on boosting network performance and energy efficiency using Nokia’s AirScale portfolio, including the latest Habrok wireless products for multiple-input multiple-output radio operations. The equipment uses ReefShark chip technology to enhance coverage.
Chunghwa is betting on AI-driven solutions to reduce operational costs. The carrier will implement Nokia’s MantaRay platform for network monitoring and automation, along with energy-saving features like deep sleep mode and MIMO muting.
The deal includes Nokia’s 7250 Interconnect Router deployment to support growing business service demands. This marks another milestone in the companies’ relationship that spans from 2G to 5G technologies.
Chunghwa’s network technology deputy general manager said the upgrades will help maintain the company’s leading position in Taiwan’s telecom market while preparing for 5G-Advanced services. The carrier hasn’t disclosed the contract value.
